Many people underestimate the importance of building muscle for long term weight loss. From past experiences and other than nutrition,  muscle is the single most important factor for long term weight loss. One pound of muscle burns significantly more calories than a pound of fat. Although the exact number depends on the person, it is suffice to say more muscle correlates to less fat. Scale weight is far less important then the amount of muscle to fat ration.  In fact, I know that most people that add on 5-10lbs of muscle are much more likely to keep the weight off for life. Just remember supportive nutrition is part of the entire equation.

There you have it.  The answer is simply a matter of increasing lean muscle tissue.  The best way to do this is through weight bearing exercise.  Please do not get caught up in the cardio craze for long term weight loss.  I can honestly say this is not the best approach.  It takes the fitness triangle approach to really keep the weight off forever.  What is the fitness triangle?  Well that will be in another article.
